Minutes:
The Committee considered the petition and congratulated the
petitioner Leeanne Bartley, Mark’s family and all those who have campaigned
tirelessly to raise awareness and improve water safety. The Chair thanked those who contributed to the
inquiry to help prevent others from experiencing such tragic loss.
The Committee recognised the wider context and work
happening regarding adventure activities and the Chair welcomed the invite to
attend a future meeting of the Cross-Party Group for the Outdoor Activity
sector in Wales.
A debate will take place in Plenary on 7 December and the
petition will return for consideration by the Committee following this.

The Chair provided an update on the recent work that the
Committee has undertaken on the petition. A draft report will now be prepared
and written information which is currently being collected from a number
of families, will also feed in to that.
Members agreed that a debate in plenary should happen in autumn term.
Members also placed their thanks on record to all the families who have been involved with the work on the petition.

Minutes:
The Chair updated the Committee on his
meeting with the petitioners.
The Committee agreed to undertake more
detailed work on the petition focusing on publicly funded water sites and
invite witnesses to give evidence to the Committee, including Water Safety
Wales, the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents, Natural Resources
Wales, and other families who have experienced similar tragic loss.
The Chair thanked the family for their
bravery in addressing this issue and for taking the time to meet with him.
