1 Introductions, apologies, substitutions and declarations of interest
1.1 The Chair welcomed Members to the virtual meeting of the Children, Young People and Education Committee.
1.2 In accordance with Standing Order 34.19, the Chair stated that she had determined that the public were excluded from the Committee’s meeting in order to protect public health but that the meeting would be broadcast live on www.senedd.tv
1.3 The Chair stated that if for any reason she dropped out of the meeting, the Committee agreed that Dawn Bowden MS would become Temporary Chair in accordance with Standing Order 17.22.
1.4 Apologies were received from Hefin David
MS, there was no substitute.
2 Scrutiny of Estyn Annual Report 2019 - 2020 (to include matters relating to the impact of COVID-19 on education)
2.1 The Committee scrutinised Estyn on its Annual Report and on matters relating to the impact of COVID-19.
2.2 Due to lack of time the question on early
years was cut short, Estyn were invited to provide a fuller
response in writing should they wish.
3 Evidence session on the impact of COVID-19 on education with representatives from the trade unions
3.1 The Committee heard
evidence from representatives of the trade unions.
4 Papers to note
4.1 The papers were noted.
5 Motion under Standing Order 17.42(ix) to resolve to exclude the public for the remainder of the meeting
5.1 The Motion was agreed.
6 Scrutiny of Estyn Annual Report 2019 - 2020 and COVID-19 - consideration of the evidence
6.1 The Committee considered the evidence it
heard in the previous sessions.
7 Curriculum and Assessment (Wales) Bill: Order of Consideration - agreement ahead of Stage 2 proceedings
7.1 Due to time constraints, arrangements for
virtual Stage 2 proceedings and the Order of Consideration for the
Curriculum and Assessment (Wales) Bill were agreed in writing,
outside Committee.
8 Consideration of the Committee's forward work programme
8.1 Members discussed the forward work
programme.
