Personal history

 

Russell was born in Welshpool in 1974 and brought up and attended school in Montgomeryshire. He has a degree in Information and Media Studies from the University of Central England.

 

Professional background

 

He owns a retail business in Newtown town centre.

 

Political history

 

Russell was elected to Powys County Council in 2008 to represent the Newtown Central ward. He was elected by the County Councils’ Welsh Conservative group to be one of its representatives on the Council’s executive management board (2008 – 2011) in which he held the portfolio for Customer Services and ICT.

 

Political interests

 

Russell’s political interests include transport, the protection of the Welsh environment, local government and community regeneration.

 

Personal interests

 

Russell’s personal interests include keeping healthy; he has been a member of the local gym and circuit training club for over 10 years and has recently taken up cycling. He is an active member of Hope Community Church in Newtown and as such has been involved in many projects that support the community.

 

Affiliations

 

Russell is a school governor at Ladywell Green Nursery & Infants School, he is on the Board of Coleg Powys and is also a member of Theatr Hafren Management Committee.
