Covering Teachers’ Absence
Covering Teachers’ Absence
Following publication of the Wales Audit Office Report Covering
Teachers’ Absence in September 2013, the Public Accounts Committee undertook
an inquiry into covering teachers’ absence. Specifically, the Committee focused
on:
- Trends in teacher absence;
- Managing teacher attendance better, including
sickness absence;
- Minimising the impact of covered lessons on
learners progress;
- Improving the management of absence cover;
- Improving the continuing professional
development of supply teachers;
- Cover related to Welsh Government policies and
initiatives;
- Ensuring that resources spent on supply cover
are managed more effectively;
- Keeping pupils safe.
