Decarbonisation of transport
Decarbonisation of transport
The
Economy, Infrastructure and Skills
Committee agreed to undertake an inquiry into Decarbonisation of transport
Summary
The
Welsh Government is currently developing the next Wales Transport Strategy
(WTS).
The
revised WTS is due to be published in May 2020 and will include a key focus on
moving to lower carbon modes of transport to meet the Welsh Government’s
decarbonisation targets and reduce the growing number of Air Quality Management
Areas.
The
Committee is keen to influence the development of the WTS.
Terms
of reference
To
do this the Committee looked at the following:
- Are the transport emissions reduction
targets, policies and proposals (set out in Prosperity for All: A Low
Carbon Wales) achievable and sufficiently ambitious?
- Is the Welsh Government’s vision for the
decarbonisation of transport sufficiently innovative, particularly in
terms of advocating new technologies?
- What action is required, and by whom, to
achieve the targets, policies and objectives?
- How should the new Wales Transport
Strategy reflect the actions needed to decarbonise transport?
