The Committee
ran a public poll during summer 2018, inviting members of the public to select from
a list of potential inquiry topics. Nearly 2,500 people participated in the
poll, with 44% voting for ‘Teaching of Welsh history, culture and heritage in
schools’.
Following the results of the poll the Culture, Welsh language and
Communications Committee agreed to undertake an
inquiry to look at how Welsh history, culture and heritage is taught in
schools.
The
Committee held a stakeholder event at the National Waterfront Museum, Swansea
on 21 February 2019
The Committee published its report: “Teaching of Welsh history” (PDF, 1. 3MB) on 14 November
2019. The
report looked at how Welsh history is taught
in schools in Wales and made recommendations for change.
The report was debated in Plenary on 15 January 2020.
