The Active Travel (Wales) Act 2013 (the Act) came into force in September 2014. The term ‘active travel’ means walking and cycling and the Act focuses on walking and cycling for transport rather than leisure. Section 2(7) of the Act defines an “active travel journey” as “a journey made to or from a workplace or educational establishment or in order to access health, leisure or other services or facilities”.
The Economy, Infrastructure and Skills Committee will undertake post legislative scrutiny to build on initial post legislative scrutiny undertaken by the predecessor Enterprise and Business Committee (Active Travel: the start of the journey (February 2016).
