Purpose of the consultation
The Culture, Welsh Language and Communications Committee looked into News Journalism in Wales and has received both written
evidence and oral evidence over recent months.
Before the report on News Journalism in Wales was finalised the
Committee sought views on the Welsh Government’s proposed budget allocation of £100,000 a year in 2018-19 and 2019-20 for “start-up
grants for journalists seeking to set up their own business in hyperlocal
news”.
The Cabinet Secretary had stated that he was yet to finalise the
details of how this funding will be used, and invited the Committee to submit
recommendations.
The Committee therefore sought views on:
·
How this funding could best be used;
·
Whether this is a sufficient amount of money to make a difference
to the provision of quality news journalism in Wales.
The deadline for submissions to this exercise was 17:00 on Friday,
10 November.
