Consultation

Rethinking food in Wales

Response to the consultation

Evidence submitted in response to this Consultation

Purpose of the consultation

The culture and identity of Wales are influenced as much by what we eat and drink as the language we speak and the landscapes we enjoy.  The Welsh Government has ambitious targets to grow our food and drink industry and raise the profile of food and drink from Wales.  Also, the decision to leave the EU will create both challenges and opportunities for the industry.

The Climate Change, Environment and Rural Affairs Committee is carrying out an inquiry into what we can do to enhance the food and drink sector and our relationship with the food we eat.

We are therefore asking what the future for food and drink could be.

What is your vision for the future of food in Wales and what needs to be done to achieve it?

How can we rethink food so that we have:

  • Healthy, locally produced food that is accessible and affordable;
  • An innovative food industry sustaining high quality jobs;
  • Sustainably produced food with high environmental and animal welfare standards; and
  • An internationally renowned destination for food lovers?

Please feel free to let us know any other issues which you feel are relevant.

We want to hear your views. Please tell us what you think by emailing us at SeneddCCERA@assembly.wales. We ask that all contributions reach us before the 14 September 2017. After this date, the Committee will consider the responses and decide how to take the inquiry forward.

We welcome responses in Welsh or English from individuals and organisations.  We ask that organisations with their own language policies provide bilingual responses in line with those policies.

Submissions should be no longer than 2,000 words, contain numbered paragraphs, and sources of evidence should be referenced and hyperlinked where possible.

Providing Written Evidence

The National Assembly for Wales has two official languages, Welsh and English.

In line with the Assembly’s Official Languages Scheme, the Committee requests that documents or written responses to consultations intended for publication or use in National Assembly proceedings are submitted bilingually. When documents or written responses are not submitted bilingually, we will publish in the language submitted, stating that it has been received in that language only.

We expect other organisations to implement their own standards or schemes and to comply with their statutory obligation.

Please see guidance for those providing evidence for committees.

Disclosure of information

Please ensure that you have considered the Assembly’s policy on disclosure of information before submitting information to the Committee.
