4.1

P-06-1212 Mark Allen's Law - we want throwline stations around all open water sites in Wales

The Chair updated the Committee on his meeting with the petitioners.

 

The Committee agreed to undertake more detailed work on the petition focusing on publicly funded water sites and invite witnesses to give evidence to the Committee, including Water Safety Wales, the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents, Natural Resources Wales, and other families who have experienced similar tragic loss.

 

The Chair thanked the family for their bravery in addressing this issue and for taking the time to meet with him.

P-06-1217 Open Long Covid one stop medical hubs / clinics

The Committee agreed to seek further clarification from the Welsh Government regarding how the services in Wales meet the NICE COVID-19 rapid guideline: managing the long-term effects of COVID-19,  whether they plan to introduce medically led long covid clinics and how sharing and learning with other countries will be taken forward.

P-06-1218 Notify all 18 year olds who have been under social care the right to request their personal information

The Committee noted that the correspondence from the Welsh Government doesn’t address the call for there to be a duty to notify individuals of their right to access their files once they turn 18. The Committee agreed to write back to the Minister to ask how the Welsh Government can ensure each young person is informed of this right and what can be done to raise awareness.

 

4.4

P-06-1219 Install a commemorative statue of African-American singer Paul Robeson in the Valleys

The Committee noted that the Deputy Minister has made the Welsh Government’s position clear, which has been accepted by the petitioner and agreed to close the petition and thank the petitioner. 

 

In addition to closing the petition, the Committee asked the clerking team to provide the petitioner with information produced by the research service regarding seeking funding for the statue and wish him every success.

P-06-1221 Reject plans for the Wentlooge Farmers’ Solar Scheme, a solar farm on the outskirts of Marshfield

The Committee congratulated the petitioner and supporters on the successful outcome and closed the petition.

P-06-1223 Prepare a bid for Wales to compete in the Eurovision Song Contest

The Committee agreed that despite Creative Wales developing an action plan for commercial music in Wales, it is clear from the Welsh Government’s response that challenging the status quo regarding the Eurovision song contest is not on the agenda. The Committee agreed to thank the petitioner and close the petition.

Updates to previous petitions

5.1

P-06-1181 Sea bottom trawling is killing our marine wildlife...Stop bulldozing our seas!

In light of the work already being undertaken by the Climate Change, Environment, and Infrastructure Committee on the issue, and that the issues raised by the petition will be explored during evidence session with stakeholders in December, the Committee agreed to close the petition and thank the petitioner.

 

5.2

P-05-1097 Ban game bird cages

Joel James MS declared the following relevant interest under Standing Order 17.24A:

 

He is a member of the British Association for Shooting and Conservation.

 

The Committee agreed to write back to the Welsh Government one last time to seek specific responses to the concerns and questions raised by the petitioner and highlight the Game Birds (Cage Breeding) Bill which has been introduced in the House of Lords.

 

5.3

P-06-1183 Implement a 20MPH speed limit 100 metres either side of the new pedestrian crossing in Glan Conwy

The Chair updated the Committee on his site visit.

 

The Committee agreed to write to Conwy Council, copying in the local town and community council, to ask whether they could visit the site and consider erecting well-lit slow signs to calm traffic or other suitable traffic calming measures.
