The Committee considered correspondence on the petition and agreed to close the petition, while thanking the petitioners for their perseverance in pursuing the petition.

·         seeking her views on the petitioner’s suggestion regarding the speed limit warning signs and in particular:

o   her views on the petitioner’s assertion that signs that show the actual speed of vehicles would be considerably less costly and more effective;

The Committee considered correspondence on the petition and agreed to:

·         note the Minister’s response and that she has promised to update the Committee on developments; and

·         ask the petitioners again whether they have any comments on the Minister’s letter.

The Committee considered correspondence on the petition and agreed to note the Minister’s response and ask her to keep the Committee up to date with a timeframe for consideration and any further developments on the issues raised in the petitioners’ comments.

The Committee considered correspondence on the petition and agreed to write to the Minister for Economy, Science and Transport seeking an update on the A40 Llanddewi – Penblewin improvement scheme.

The Committee considered correspondence on the petition and agreed to write to the Minister for Economy, Science and Transport sharing the petitioner’s correspondence and asking for:

·         more information on the ‘gateway enhancements’;

·         an update on the speed limit review of the A40 between Llandewi Velfrey and Scotchwell Roundabout; and

·         an update on the A40 Llandewi-Penblewin Improvement Scheme.

The Committee considered correspondence on the petition and agreed to write to;

·         the Minister for Economy, Science and Transport asking that the Committee is advised of the outcome of the bid; and

·         the new Police and Crime Commissioner for Dyfed Powys Police, to make him aware of the petition.

Joyce Watson gave an update to the Committee on her recent site-visit to see first- hand some of the issues with the road safety on the A40 in Llanddewi Velfrey. She thanked the petitioners for their hospitality and agreed to share photographs of the visit with the Committee.

The Committee considered correspondence on the petition and agreed to; write to the Minister for Local Government and Communities asking that the Committee is kept informed when a decision on the funding is made; and in light of the by-pass being a number of years away, if any interim work can be done on the by-pass to help lower the concerns raised about the safety of the footpaths and road-crossings.

Joyce Watson placed on record that she would be happy to undertake a site visit and meet with Llandewi Velfrey Community Council.

The Committee considered correspondence in relation to this petition and agreed to write to the Minister to enquire about the likelihood of the bid mentioned in his letter being successful.

The Committee agreed to:

Await the outcome of the Minister’s speed limit review on trunk roads.

Forward the Minister’s response to the petitioners and inform them that the Committee will return to their petition once the outcome of the review is known.

The Committee considered an update to these petitions.

Actions

The Committee agreed to:

·         Write to the Minister for Local Government and Communities to ask whether the speed limit reviews have been carried out and if so, what the findings were and emphasise the need for a swift resolution of the issue to improve road safety.
