Notes the report of the Petitions Committee on the petition, 'Stop the army recruiting in schools', which was laid in the Table Office on 19 June 2015.

 

The Welsh Government's response to the report was laid in the Table Office on 23 September 2015.

Notes the report of the Petitions Committee on the petition, 'Stop the army recruiting in schools', which was laid in the Table Office on 19 June 2015.

 

The Welsh Government's response to the report was laid in the Table Office on 23 September 2015.


The motion was agreed in accordance with Standing Order 12.36.

Members discussed the evidence which was gathered by speaking to a group of pupils informally. Alex Barons, one of the staff, and Daisy Major, Holly Hinson and Sebastian Collings, pupils from Prestatyn High School contributed towards the discussion.

 

The Committee noted its gratitude to the pupils and staff they had met at Prestatyn High School and to the school for its warm welcome and help.

  • write to the Ministry of Defence seeking more information on the desired ‘outputs’ from engagement with young people in schools;
  • engage with Rhyl High School, either through a visit or taking video evidence, to look at their engagement with the armed forces; and
  • write to Careers Wales asking for information on what other types of employers go into schools.
