The
Considered correspondence from the Minister for Energy, Planning and Rural
Affairs and agreed to close the petition, in light of the NRW Board’s decision
not to offer any extension to the leases for pheasant shooting rights once they
expire in March 2019, following the Welsh Government’s intervention. In doing so, the Committee wished to
congratulate the petitioners on the success of their campaign.

Committee considered the petition for the first time and agreed to:

to:
o
Natural
Resources Wales to seek their views on the issues raised by the petition and
the detailed comments made by the petitioners, and request an update on the
process of analysing consultation responses and the likely timescales for
reaching a decision about future policy on this issue;
o
The
Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Planning and Rural Affairs to ask for a
response to the concerns received about the sufficiency and monitoring of the
Code of Practice for the Welfare of Gamebirds; and to
·
consider
requesting time for a debate on this issue once responses to these questions
have been received.
