Given that several of the Members who attended the Committee’s site visits to windfarms in Carmarthenshire were not present at the meeting, the Committee agreed to postpone the item until Members are present and responses to the Committee’s letters on the subject have been received.

The Committee heard from members of Grwp Blaengwen Action Group and other members of the community.

 

The Committee agreed:

To write to the Health and Social Care Committee as well as the Environment and Sustainability Committee, summarising the community’s concerns about the impact of noise from wind turbines and enclosing the transcript of the meeting;

To write to Statkraft to outline the Committee’s concerns about the handling of complaints from the local community; to urge them to find a solution to the noise problems experienced by local people; and to request them to hold a formal meeting with Grwp Blaengwen Action Group to discuss the problems experienced;

That individual Committee Members would share the transcript of the open-mic session with other Assembly Members in their political groups;

Write to the Minister for Health and Social Services to make her aware of the community’s concerns about noise from windfarms;

Write to the Minister for Environment and Sustainable Development to make him aware of the community’s concerns about noise from windfarms and about the lack of a review of, and community consultation on, TAN 8;

To make Wales’ four MEPs aware of the key points of the discussion;

To publish a note of the Committee’s meetings with stakeholders on 27 February.

Arrange a site visit for Committee Members who wish it;

Forward the evidence received to the Environment and Sustainability Committee for consideration as part of its Inquiry into Energy Policy and Planning in Wales;

Investigate the potential for a joint site visit with the Environment and Sustainability Committee;

Commission a research paper on the subject for future consideration.
