The Committee considered correspondence from the then Minister for Education and Skills and agreed to close the petition.  In doing so, they also agreed to write to the Chair of the Finance Committee, the Cabinet Secretary for Finance and Local Government and the Cabinet Secretary for Education, to ask them to take the issues raised into account in the next budget round.

The Committee considered correspondence on the petition and agreed to:

·         write to the Minister asking for his comments on the additional information and questions raised by the petitioner and also why the Welsh Government does not collect or hold data on pupil movement over the Wales/England border; and

·         forward details of the petition to the Committee tasked with scrutinising the Local Government (Wales) Bill when it is introduced, so that they can take the issues raised into consideration.

The Committee considered the petition for the first time and agreed to write to the Minister to:

·         Seek his views on the additional information provided by the petitioners;

·         Ask what research has been done into the effect of pupils receiving their primary education outside of Wales and their secondary education in Wales and whether education consortia hold any information on the number of pupils affected in this way.
