Minutes:
Members
considered correspondence on the petition and were minded to close the petition
given that the main issues it raises are being taken forward via the Historic
Environment (Wales) Bill. However Members
expressed disappointment that both Visit Wales and the Wales Tourism Alliance
did not appear to have responded to requests for information and agreed to
write again to both organisations and consider the petition further once
responses had been received.

Minutes:
The
Committee considered correspondence on the petition and agreed to:
- write
to the Deputy Minister asking for his comments on the generally very
supportive comments of the Welsh language Commissioner and the Chair of
RCAHMW; and
- ask
whether he has been in discussion with any other Ministers on the issue.
- pass
the correspondence received on to the Communities, Equality and Local
Government Committee for them to be aware of and take into account in
their consideration of the Historic Environment (Wales) Bill;
- seek
outstanding responses from Visit Wales and the Wales Tourism Alliance; and
- make
the petitioners aware that they are able to contact other Assembly Members
and Members of the Communities, Equality and Local Government Committee
given their consideration of the Historic Environment (Wales) Bill.

Committee considered the petition for the first time and agreed to:

write
to:
Ø The Welsh language
Commissioner seeking her views on the petition;
Ø Visit Wales and the Wales
Tourism Alliance, given the petitioners’ aim of using this issue as a way of promoting
outdoor tourism ventures;
Ø The Royal Commission on
the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales; and
Ø The Deputy Minister,
seeking his views on the petitioners’ further comments;
·
Seek
legal advice on the Welsh Government’s role and specifically whether they could
take a more direct role in the process, possibly via the Historic Environment
Bill, once introduced.
