In my experience as a parent of 2 sons and now grandmother to two grandsons, there are occasions when a child does not listen to the responsible adult, sometimes wilfullly disregarding instructions.
As a result he can put himself and others in danger.
A reasonable, smack on back of hand or on calf, has always been enough to get him back on track.
E.g.
Not coming back when called in a large park,
An unprovoked push at his younger brother , causing him to fall and hurt his leg.
Our grandson has only needed smacks on these separate occasions - now the “look “;is enough, but if he hadn’t had those smacks he would likely be continuing unsafe and mean behaviour.

Parents will not be able to look after their children properly.
There will be a fear of being accused of a criminal act when just looking after a child.
Police time will be taken up with reasonable parents and have less time finding real child abusers.

Yes. It is a waste of money.
