The current law is unclear; professionals need to be able to tell parents that the physical punishment of children is against the law. Children should have the same protection from assault that adults do, not less, see Article 19. I am pleased that Welsh Government is leading the way in the UK and doing this.

If by implementing this Bill violence against children was reduced or even eliminated, the money spent helping such children could be used to help, support and protect more vulnerable children in today's society. Funds are finite but the need is greater than ever before.
